Fire Extinguishers

  • What are the commonly used fire extinguishers?

    • The ones most commonly used will be the 9kg ABC Dry Powder & 2kg CO2 fire extinguishers.​

  • What is the difference between ABC Dry Powder & CO2 fire extinguishers?

    • ABC Dry Powder can be used on classes A, B & C fires. It is not recommended for electrical fires because it leaves a residue that may be harmful to electronics. The CO2 is much suitable to put out electrical fires as it does not leave any residue, it is also safe to be used on class B fires. Click here for more information.

  • How do I use a fire extinguisher?

    • P - Pull the safety pin​

    • A - Aim it at the base of the fire

    • S - Squeeze the handle

    • S - Sweep the hose left & right

  • What is the life span of the fire extinguisher?

    • 10 years from the manufactured date.​

  • Is it safe to keep a fire extinguisher in the car under hot weather?

    • Yes, Malaysia's fire extinguishers are designed to be heat resistance and can withstand up to 60°C. ​

  • Can the fire extinguisher still be used if I accidentally discharged a small amount?

    • Yes but it must be repressurize & service once they've been discharge. ​

  • Is the powder in the ABC Dry Powder toxic?

    • While it is generally not toxic, the powder in fire extinguishers might still cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.​

  • How many fire extinguishers do I need for my premises?  

    • It is recommended to have one fire extinguisher every 500sqft of your premises.​

  • Do I need fire extinguishers for my house or is it only for commercial use?

    • Yes, every household should at least have 1 fire extinguisher, especially in the kitchen where fires are more likely to occur. ​

  • Which type of fire extinguisher should I put in my car?
    • ​Dry powder extinguishers are effective against a wider range of fire types commonly found in vehicles, including those involving flammable liquids. As for EVs (Electrical Vehicles), CO2 extinguishers is recommended as it is more suited to put out electrical fires.
